To Whom It May Concern,
When my husband and I were planning to build our home in southern Vermont we sought out the services of Jeremy Coleman, of J Coleman + Company Architects, Brattleboro. We believed Jeremy would bring the care and attention to our project that we wanted, and we really liked other work of his we had seen in the area. A big plus was that Jeremy was able to team with a local builder Kent Webster of Webster Construction, Marlboro, VT to give us a turn-key, design-build project. We were in no way disappointed!

We feel Jeremy listened to us very carefully, in order to understand all that we wanted from the house. In the end, he incorporated everything we asked for into the design. And as to the design, he brought a wonderful creativity into the planning of our home. I particularly love how our kitchen-dining-living room area works. It incorporates the open floor plan we wanted, yet each space is clearly defined and completely self-contained. As Jeremy puts it, the arched ceiling of the living room organizes that space from the fireplace at one end to the arched window at the other, while the dining room is defined by the large windows all around it. It is a wonderfully easy house to live in, and the interior spaces are just what we hoped bright, roomy, and comfortable.

We were delighted with the detailing Jeremy brought to the design. There are many carefully wrought touches: the 19th century roof trim, the graceful eye-brow hood over the gable end window, the patterned roof shingles, display niches carved out of the curved wall in the bedroom hallway, our wonderful fireplace. In all, the detailing is understated but elegant, adding to the presence of the house without breaking the budget. There are historic references that give it the character of an older home, while it is still thoroughly modern. Jeremy and Kent collaborated to keep the budget under control. Some of the detailing decisions, as well as the structural design and finish choices, were made to maximize quality as efficiently as possible. We certainly feel we got a lot of value for the money we spent. The architect and the builder were on the same page, and worked with us as collaborators in building our house.

Once the construction had started, Jeremy worked with me to pick out finishes and colors. It was like I had an interior decorator as well as an architect! I am very happy with the interior color scheme we settled on, as well as our choices for lighting and other finish materials. I would not have known where to find many of the fixtures we ended up using.
I would happily work with Jeremy again, and can wholeheartedly recommend his services. Please feel free to contact me if you have any other questions about my experience.
Sincerely,
